The Maternity Movement

Everyone deserves access to quality maternity care that prioritises well-being and dignity.

We invite like minded people who want to improve maternity care for all who use it and those who work in it.

We promote safe and empowering maternity care, which is reliant on respectful employment.

Our main aims

Campaigning for: A Practitioners Risk Register

We call for all medically qualified (and supervised others) maternity care workers including, but not limited to, GMC, HCPC, NMC who have been directly involved in causing serious harm or the death of a patient.

This would replace the current systems and Fitness to Practice hearings, meaning staff will be externally monitored for competency, given support, further training or, in some cases cessation of their practice.  Taking away the witch hunt element and improving safe practice or removing unsafe practitioners.

Currently this does NOT happen and the system is left open to misunderstanding, abuse and devastatingly poor outcomes.

A single national framework of Policies, Guidelines and SOP's

We believe there should be a single, unified, national policy framework, requiring joint collaboration with key agencies to help reduce the high incidence of mortality and morbidity within maternity care.

A single framework would standardise care across the board, preventing personal bias from influencing policy development and deviating from best practice, when evidence changes, the policy updates live and it would then be up to Trusts to disseminate any new changes to their staff.

Learning from one framework would also allow the most appropriately skilled staff the ability to be deployed to work in any hospital nationally, allowing them to instantly understand how to safely work. We believe this would reduce hierarchical issues and bullying culture's that puts further added risks into play.

Join a debate or share your story

We are a collaboration of passionate individuals, including healthcare providers, policymakers, activists, charities and service users and those affected by trauma, and ultimately loss.

We invite anonymous stories from everyone who gives birth, their families and the dedicated staff who work alongside them.

All voices should be HEARD

We encourage open and anonymous sharing of childbirth and maternity care experiences, to foster a supportive community for both parents and maternity health workers, ultimately contributing to better understanding, empathy, and knowledge exchange in the field of maternity care.

We provide a safe and anonymous space for parents to share their childbirth and maternity care experiences. Your stories can be a source of comfort and support for others who may be going through similar situations. Whether it's the joy of welcoming a new life into the world or the challenges and sometimes heartbreak faced during pregnancy, labour, or postpartum, all voices matter

What is a Good Birth Experience?

Whilst this can be subjective, we believe this is the safe birth of a live and healthy baby or baby's, by whatever means necessary and taking into account parents wishes when providing safe, clinical care.

This is a safe space where we encourage open and anonymous sharing of childbirth and maternity care experiences, to foster a supportive community for both parents and maternity health workers, ultimately contributing to better understanding, empathy, and knowledge exchange in the field of maternity care.
